The Generators (1998) Welcome To The End @VBR

The Generators have been at the forefront of the Los Angeles punk scene since 1997, and were recently mentioned by one of Americas leading news publications, the USA Today as one of Americas most under rated punk bands.
When the punk scene in Los Angeles was being recognized across the globe vocalist Doug “Dagger” Kane was one of the young familiar faces in the picture. Frequenting all the early Punk clubs like The Vex, The Cathay De Grande, and Godzilla’s, a then 16 year old Dagger joined in on the action, and started singing for his first punk band Doug &The Slugz. In 1983 The Slugz were documented as one of America’s first OI! Street punk bands, and on any typical night they were opening up for other notorious punk acts like The Abandoned, Ill Repute, Mad Parade, and the Flower Leopards.

The Kent 3 (2001) Spells @VBR

Bellingham, WA, group the Kent 3 offer blast upon blast of frenetic, nervy pop-punk on Spells. The trio seems to draw equally on the garage frenzy of '60s Northwest predecessors such as the Sonics and late-'70s/early-'80s art punk. "Bellingham" is equal doses of muscular, quick-stop guitars and hoarse-throated fury, while "The Changeling," with its choppy, angular vocal line, lands midway between the artier side of '70s punk and early works by the Jam. On the sunny side of things, the amiable, rolling beach punk of "15 Days" recalls the Queers at their best, while the friendly, upbeat "Man in a Woman's Body" revels in '60s-style sugar pop (in this way calling to mind the Ramones and the aforementioned Queers). Perhaps the only misstep is the ominous and spooky (in a silly way) "The Pines." Many would-be punkers of the '90s and beyond seem ill-versed in punk history, not realizing how varied their chosen genre's terrain can be. Not so for this band, who has created a high-energy and diverse punk-scape with Spells. This record is both arse-kicking and a lot of fun. ~~ Erik Hage

The GC5 (2003) Kisses From Hanoi & Horseshoes And Handgrenades @VBR

The GC5 (Grady Coffee Five) was a punk rock band from Cleveland, Ohio, formed in 1997 and who split in 2003. The GC5 provided a political charge to their music comparable to that of The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers. Lyrics included themes of social and political discontent, leftist politics, and the struggle of the working class. In 2000, The GC5 released their debut album Kisses From Hanoi, and in 2001, the band released the EP Horseshoes and Handgrenades. In 2002, the band released the album Never Bet the Devil Your Head. While most definitely presenting the sound of the streetpunk genre, the album was noted for not relying on the street fighting, hard-drinking themes that overruns many of the genre's songs. In 2003, Thick Records re-released their two albums Kisses From Hanoi (which was out of print) and Horseshoes and Handgrenades (which was originally only available as an import) on one CD. It was the final release from the band. After splitting up Doug and Dave formed Motel Blonde together with Ryan Foltz, who just left the Dropkick Murphys. Motel Blonde didn't last long and broke up in March 2004. Doug then joined Rosavelt on the bass guitar, and formed Doug McKean & The Stuntmen a year later. Dave is now playing with The Magpies.

Redd Kross (1982) Born Innocent @VBR

Redd Kross have always been too good, too perfect, too true, to believe. Mythic. Could this tuneful hardcore punk EP really be the work of a brother band with the 15-year-old on vocals and guitar and the 11-year-old on bass? Did Redd Kross really open for Black Flag? Could Jeff and Steve really have been born and raised in the Beach Boys’ hometown of Hawthorne, California, and did Jeff really see the Beatles live in 1966? Did one of them, dressed in Gene Simmons makeup, really kill a Bruce Springsteen impersonator onstage? Is that really their hair? Could Researching the Blues, their first studio album in 15 years, be not just the hottest thing since Cher went solo but the best start-to-finish Redd Kross record ever?

Nekromantix (2002) Return Of The Loving Dead @VBR

The Nekromantix are a Danish-American psychobilly band formed in 1989 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Their music is generally structured around monster and horror themes. A central icon of the band's image is founder and frontman Kim Nekroman's "coffinbass", a custom-built double bass with a body in the shape of a coffin and a headstock the shape of a cross. Nekroman has been the sole constant member of the band, the rest of the current lineup consisting of guitarist Franc and drummer Lux.
The Nekromantix released five albums on various European record labels during their first decade, then crossed over to American audiences in the early 2000s by signing to Los Angeles-based Hellcat Records, through which they have released three albums since 2002. Monster Trux (2002) Grind @VBR

Chicago based skate-punk band from US... amazing stuff!! Monster Trux's debut Grind is so retro that it's downright refreshing: in an age of cookie-cutter mall-punk bands like Sum 41 and blink-182, Monster Trux are pure '80s style skate punk along the lines of the early Gang Green or NOFX, with just a little of the pop culture brattiness of Born Innocent-era Redd Kross thrown in. Silly but not juvenile (the jokes are mostly along the lines of "Pool Shark," a goofy instrumental raveup based on the theme from Jaws) and filled with capable two-minute blasts of ramalama -- the opening "Svengoolie" and the blistering "Bones Brigade" resemble the Queers and early Clash, respectively -- that marry melody and attitude in equal parts, Grind is a solid first effort. Most encouragingly, Monster Trux understand the value of brevity; even with the endlessly extended, metal-tinged closer "Monster Show" appended, the whole album is over in a brisk half-hour. ~ Stewart Mason

Natives of New York City, band members have a well-documented history of back-and-forth conflict with the NYPD which precedes the band's formation.[1] The name "Leftöver Crack" is explained by Stza as being "an oxymoron", based on the idea that crack cocaine addicts are known for vigorous use, and are unlikely to have any "leftover" crack.

Guttermouth is a Huntington Beach, California punk rock band. They were formed in 1988 in California when Mark Adkins left La Habra punk band Republic to join Eric "derek" Davis's band Critical Noise. Critical Noise drummer Tim Baulch came up with the name Guttermouth for the newly merged members. After one year, Adkins and Davis relocated the band from La Habra California to Huntington Beach California where new members Clint Weinrich, James T. Nunn, & Scott Sheldon joined Guttermouth. A feew years after their inception, Guttermouth signed a recording contract with Offspring lead singer Bryan Dexter Holland's Nitro Records, and began issuing albums at a breakneck pace, including 1996's Teri Yakimoto, 1997's Musical Monkey, and 1999's Gorgeous, the latter featuring new drummer Ty Smith. By the dawn of the new millennium, Guttermouth had switched to Epitaph Records in 2000, and issued further releases such as 2001's Covered With Ants, 2002's Gusto! and 2004's Eat Your Face.

GBH were early pioneers of English street punk, often nicknamed "UK82", along with Discharge, Broken Bones, The Exploited and The Varukers. They have gone on to influence several punk rock musicians. -FRANK BLACK & THE CATHOLICS- ('98) Frank Black & The Catholics

Inverting his stage name from Black Francis to Frank Black, the former Pixies lead singer/songwriter embarked on a solo career after he broke up the band in early 1993; actually, he began recording his solo album before he told the band the news. Working with former Pere Ubu member Eric Drew Feldman, Black occasionally heads into the ferocious post-punk guitar territory that marked such landmark albums as Surfer Rosa and Doolittle, but more frequently he plays up his considerably underrated melodic side. His self-titled 1993 debut album was an adventurous sketchbook of pop styles ranging from surf rock to heavy metal; from Beatlesque pop to new wave.

-COMPULSIVE GAMBLERS- ('95) Gambling Days Are Over

Compulsive Gamblers were a garage-rock group formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1990 by Greg Cartwright and Jack Yarber, both future members of the Oblivians. Gambling Days are Over is the debut album by the Compulsive Gamblers. It was released in 1995 by Sympathy for the Record Industry. The album, with the exception of the last three songs, was recorded on an 8-track recorder in vocalist Jack Oblivian's apartment. The album was released after the band had already broken up, and was essentially a collection of the groups three 7-inch releases, "Church Goin'," "Joker," and Goodtime Gamblers." During the recording of the album the Compulsive Gamblers lineup consisted of Jack Oblivian and Greg Oblivian on guitar and vocals, Bushrod Thomas on drums, Fields Trimble on bass, and Greg Easterly on violin. The first three songs on the album are cover songs reflecting the band's diverse influences; the album contains covers by The Tornados, the Bar-Kays, and Tom Waits. The song "Sour and Vicious Man" was covered by Jay Reatard of the Reatards on their third album, "Not Fucked Enough."

-EDDIE AND THE HOT RODS- (93) The End Of The Beginning

Eddie and the Hot Rods are a pub rock band from Essex founded in 1975. They are best known for their 1977 UK top ten hit "Do Anything You Wanna Do", released under the name The Rods. They originally split up in 1981, but have reformed several times since, with singer Barrie Masters the only constant member. The band was formed in Southend on Sea during 1975 by guitarist Dave Higgs (who had previously played in The Fix with Lee Brilleaux), with drummer Steve Nicol, bassist Rob Steel, and singer Barrie Masters.
Before rising to semi-stardom in 1977, the Hot Rods underwent several changes in personnel: One of the first members to leave the band was Eddie himself, a dummy that featured prominently in the Hot Rods' early gigs and was discarded as the joke had worn thin. Otherwise, the band consisted of Barrie Masters on vocals, Pete Wall and Dave Higgs on guitar, Rob Steel on bass and Steve Nicol on drums. Ed Hollis (brother of Talk Talk's Mark Hollis) became their manager.
In May 1975, after building a live reputation, they secured a Saturday-night residency at The Kensington in London. This was followed in October by a joint residency with The 101ers at The Nashville, playing alternate headline sets. In November, after positive press reviews of their live shows, they were signed  by Island Records.

-ANTISEEN- ('88) Honour Among Thieves

The bad boys from North Carolina known as Antiseen have been very busy as of late, archiving all of their old-school releases and putting them out to today's hapless and unsuspecting music scene. 1988's HONOUR AMONG THIEVES is one of these works, and it truly captures the essence of a band that doesn't bother with finesse-and this is them at their most raw. Given today's tepid musical climate (and by reading the graphically detailed first-hand accounts in the liner notes), Antiseen was by far 100 times more volatile than Eminem and Marilyn Manson combined. Chaotic spurts of Joe Young's guitar work and Jeff Clayton's out-of-control vocal rants highlight the 20 tracks which comprise this collection, but it's the collective attitude of Antiseen that always pervades, a spirit that encompasses anxiety, rebellion, and everything rock 'n' roll should stand for.

-ANTISEEN- ('91) Southern Hosility

World's scummiest band. Dirty and Pissed would be a very fitting description of their attitude. This release has a very raw metal punk sound. 14 tracks with some titles like Leeches and Losers, My God can Beat Up Your God, Kicked in the Head, Slice You Open , and more TOTALLY NON-EMO songs. Lyrically you can be sure that the following words have been used in AT LEAST one song ever recorded by AntiSeen: Blood, Bastard, Stupid, Loser, B*tch, motherfucker, toilet, kill, stab, drunk, whisky, beer, damn, shoot, whore, mother, up your ass, etc.. Fans of GG Allin and the Mentors will love this band. Living next door to this band would be a world's worst nightmare. Living next door to someone who listened to this band daily would be the 2nd world's worst nightmare. Is this their best? Gasp! you mean I have to listen to all of their other releases and compare? -BLANKS 77- ('96) Killer Blanks

It all started back in 1990. Mike and Chad had been friends with eachother since they were in high school. The two of them came up with the idea to start a band. Renee had posted an ad in a local paper saying that she was starting a band too.
She already had a singer, but Mike still urged Chad to go and talk with her. Chad later found out that the singer Renee had no longer wanted to be in the band. So the same day the two met, Chad and Renee drove to talk to Mike. Mike was then in the band. Renee got a friend named Brendan to play bass for them. The four of them weren't good at thinking of names. They came up with the Blanks because their minds were blank. After the Blanks got a review in a magazine, another band notified them to tell them that the Blanks is already taken as a name. '77, which stood for 1977, the year most punk rock bands started, was added onto the name making Blanks '77.
The line-up stayed the same until 1992 when Brendan left. He was replaced by Geoff, who left two months later to join A.F.I. Blanks 77 had four shows booked and no bassist. They found Timm from Broken Heroes and he joined. Timm was ready to play the shows after rehearsing once with the rest of the band. Timm stayed with them for the rest of their time as a band.
Blanks 77 signed on with Nasty Vinyl and released their first full length album, Killer Blanks in Germany. The band then signed onto Radical Records and re-released Killer Blanks in 1996. This time four more tracks were added on.
In 1997, Blanks 77 came out with their second album entitled Tanked and Pogoed. Chad left the band in late '97 and was replaced by Paul from the Unseen, who played with them until C.B.H. came out.
1999 was the release of their newest album C.B.H. They also found another new drummer, Kid Blanks. He plays with Renee in her new band, Dean Dean and the Sex Machines.
Blanks 77 have appeared on tons of compilation cds, cover albums, and videos. Another thing on their list of accomplishments is touring Europe twice and the U.S. so many times that every bar tender knows who they are. Blanks 77 have shared the stage numerous times with bands like: The Misfits, Rancid, The Dwarves, The Business, Bad Brains, The Bouncing Souls, One Way System, Anti-Nowhere Leaugue, Anti-Heroes, Dropkick Murphys, and tons of bands they were too drunk to remember.
Blanks 77 are known for their crazy live shows coast to coast and all over the world. Any mohawked aficionado of punk knows who Blanks 77 is. Blanks 77 on tour was a crazy force that could only be stopped by: 1.Them being kicked out of every club in the U.S., 2.Their tour van breaking down, 3.Their livers giving out.

-AMERICAN NIGHTMARE- ('01) Year One

Give Up the Ghost (American Nightmare) was formed when Tim Cossar and Wesley Eisold (who was then a roadie for Ten Yard Fight) met up with Azy Relph and Jesse Van Diest in 1998. They recorded a demo tape in 1999, followed by their debut release, a self-titled 7", on Bridge 9 Records under their original name American Nightmare in 2000. After extensive touring and line-up changes, the band recorded their second release 7", The Sun Isn't Getting Any Brighter. This was later combined with their self-titled effort to form Year One, which was released posthumously.
Their debut full-length, Background Music, was recorded for Equal Vision Records in 2001 and was released to much acclaim. In 2003, the band faced a legal battle with a similarly named band from Philadelphia. The band then changed their name briefly to the initials "A.N." then to American Nothing for a brief period. After the other American Nightmare threatened to press charges again, they changed their name to Give Up the Ghost (which was intended to be the name of their second album).[1] Their second full length, We're Down Til We're Underground released on Equal Vision Records, displayed the band experimenting with their sound, with longer songs that didn't follow the typical hardcore songwriting formula they had adhered to in their previous releases.
Some fans of the band have been known to refer to them by their original name.

-GENERATION X- Live at the Paris Theatre, '78 & '81

Generation X managed to squeeze out one final album, 1981's Kiss Me Deadly (which contained the original version of a song that Idol would later cover as a solo artist and score a massive hit with, "Dancing With Myself"), before splitting up.
After the group's breakup, James later turned up as a member of '80s glam-punkers Sigue Sigue Sputnik, while Idol relocated to New York and embarked on his aforementioned solo career. As Idol's solo success created interest in his first band, numerous Generation X best-of and rarity collections began to crop up, including 1985's Perfect Hits: 1975-1981, 1998's Sweet Revenge, and 2000's Original Debut, the latter of which was a reissue of the U.K. version of Generation X's self-titled debut. ~~ by Greg Prato

-TOM ROBINSON BAND- Up Against The Wall (7-inches)

Tom Robinson Band (TRB) were a British rock band, established in 1976 by singer, songwriter and bassist Tom Robinson. Their third single, "Up Against the Wall", is now acknowledged as a classic punk rock single and their debut album, Power in the Darkness (1978), is still widely admired.
Tom Robinson began gigging in London in 1976. By the end of the year, he had decided to put together a permanent band. Robinson's old friend, guitarist Danny Kustow, was the first in the permanent lineup. They ran small ads in the music papers looking for a bass player and drummer. Robinson found drummer Brian "Dolphin" Taylor. The search for a bass player continued, until Mark Ambler auditioned. Some days later, Ambler mentioned he also played keyboards; he had spent many years studying piano with veteran jazz musician, Stan Tracey. After listening to Ambler playing his Hammond organ Robinson realised he would have to be the bass player himself.

-GENERATION X- ('02) Valley of the Dolls

Although not as well as known as some of their peers (the Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Damned, etc.), first wave U.K. punk rockers Generation X burst onto the scene at the same time as the others. And while they enjoyed some moderate success in their homeland, Generation X would become better-known as the launching pad for their singer, Billy Idol, who would go on to achieve great commercial success come the '80s. Originally formed in 1976, Generation X (which was named after a book that focused on battles between the Mods and the Rockers during the '60s) was comprised of guitarist Bob Andrews, bassist Tony James, drummer Mark Laff, and fronted by Idol. The group was eventually signed up by Chrysalis Records, resulting in a self-titled debut album in 1978 (the U.S. and U.K. versions contained different track listings), as Generation X became one of the first punk bands to appear on the popular British TV music program Top of the Pops.
Unlike other punk bands, Generation X wasn't afraid to turn a blind eye to the supposed "accepted" ideals by punk rockers as they covered a John Lennon song on their debut ("Gimme Some Truth") and even hooked up with veteran rocker Ian Hunter to handle the production chores for their sophomore effort, 1979's Valley of the Dolls. Perhaps as a result, however, the group's musical direction became cloudy (some wanting the group to remain true to their punk roots, while others feeling that they should pursue a heavier rock sound) and bandmembers began to leave one by one, until Idol and James were the only remaining original members.

-SUBURBAN ANTHEMS- Greatest Hits

The Suburban Anthem story starts like so many other bands. All three of us grew up in California (San Diego and the Bay Area respectively) but didn't meet until we were all living in Portland Oregon. We all have very similar taste in music and have gone through a wide range of punk movements before arriving at where we are today. Having all lived in different parts of California, we each bring a different sound to the table which has helped us develop something that is truly our own. Having bled punk rock for so many years, we started this band in order to fulfill a need inside each one of us to do what we believe, and bring back what was great about the punk scene. None of us believe that true punk rock can be categorized as a style of music, the way a person dresses, or the company one keeps. Punk is an attitude that is bred in to you. It cannot be learned, practiced or preached but something that is pure, something you live on a daily basis. A punker can have a desk job and work 9-5; he can be a poet, a painter, a CEO, anything. For some reason punk went haywire a number of years back and became about exclusion when at its core it’s about inclusion. All are welcome with Suburban Anthem. We want everyone to experience The Anthem and take from that something fun, positive, and uplifting. Some will love us and some will hate us, that's all gravy. So drop the attitude, get off the couch, put down the remote, throw on some jeans and join The Anthem.
