Various Artists - Punk Seven Inch CD, Volume 1

This CD collects the first batch of seven-inch EP's put out by Lookout! Records but there are a few absences. The first is Operation Ivy's "Hectic" EP, Lookout! number 3. You'll find that in its entirety on the CD version of Operation Ivy's "Energy" album. The second is Crimpshrine's first EP "Sleep, What's That?" which is available as a part of their CD album "The Sound Of A New World Being Born." Both of these titles are on Lookout". Next is Lookout! number 8, Sewer Trout's "Songs About Drinking" EP. The songs from that record were released on a Sewer Trout discography CD but I don't have a copy or any advice about how to track it down - but it's definitely worth looking for if you're interested. Also not inlcluded on this CD are seven inches by Neurosis and Eyeball, Lookout! numbers 12 and 13 respectively.
On this CD there are no credits because the credits for each original release are included in the artwork in this booklet. In all cases, we reproduced the best possible version of the cover and insert art, manipulated only to make them fit in a CD-sized booklet. Be aware that the band addresses on the original artwork are 15 years old in most cases, and may not be good anymore.
John Golden mastered this CD from the original tapes. He mastered all of the EP's originally too, back when he was at K-Disc. K-Disc Mastering is now gone but John has his own mastering business. All the original layout was done dy David Hayes. He co-founded Lookout! Records with Lawrence Livermore. These days, David runs Very Small Records. Chris Appelgren did the CD construction and tracked down the tapes, artwork and bands with help from Alicia Peterson and the rest of the Lookout! Records staff. If you were in one of these bands, get in touch with Lookout! Records

Various Artists - Generations 1 A Punk Look At Human Rights

Governments are taking human rights off their agenda. There's an attempt to redefine human rights to make profit and to demote human rights as an issue. This album is a challenge to all these. Our goals are the opposite. We believe in the universality of rights for all. The people of the earth deserve nothing else. No lesser person-anywhere.
--Jack Healey.

VA - A punk+new wave Explosion

Punk Rock. The very words now seem antiquated, a phrase that has passed both into common usage and the collective memory. It is amazing to think that in 2001 we are already 25 long years away from that drought-ridden summer that incubated the British punk (and its bastard offspring New Wave) explosion.
All rock & roll is based on shock value and when punk appeared it really did up the ante: Most people remember the moment punk went overground in Britain in late 1976, when the SEX PISTOLS made their famous appearance on the Tonight programme with Bill Grundy. "The Filth and the fury" was suddenly everywhere... The tabloids pounced upon the movement and overnight, you couldn't move for spiky haired urchins giving it plenty. However, punk had been gestating for some years previously, in the pub rock scene in Britain and the garage band scene in America.
Guitarist Lenny Kaye's collection LP of US garage bands, Nuggets, released in 1972, helped to define punk. It showed that it was not all sweet Mersey pop in the 1960's. Full of snarling bands like The Standells and the 13th Floor Elevators, Nuggets became an underground success, and helped inform US groups of the early 70's such as The Stooges and The New York Dolls. British entrepeneur Malcolm McLaren briefly managed the latter group in 1975 and brought a lot of their ideas over to Britain. He and fellow travellers took this basic template, added the disafectation of British youth and launched punk into a largely complacent music scene that didn't know its Topographic Ocean from its Tubular Bell.

Osaka Popstar - Osaka Popstar & The American Legends of Punk

The man behind pop/punk superstar group Osaka Popstar, singer John Cafiero, started the band as a way to unite his love of music and cartoons, not to mention the fact that it gave him the opportunity to play with some of punk rock's (and his) heroes. With Marky Ramone (of the Ramones) and Richard Hell (the Voidoids) on drums, Jerry Only (the Misfits) on bass, and Dez Cadena (Black Flag) and Ivan Julian (Richard Hell & the Voidoids) on guitars, Osaka Popstar released their debut album, fittingly titled Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk, in 2006. Cafiero also worked closely with cartoonists and animators John Pound, Mari-chan, and Joel Veitch in developing the album art and the two music videos included on the record.
