THE VIBRATORS: Unpunked

THE VIBRATORS: Unpunked

Formed in February 1976 by vocalist/guitarist Knox, bassist Pat Collier and guitarist John Ellis their first gig was supporting The Stranglers at Hornsey Art College. They supported The Sex Pistols at the 100 Club and were one of the bands to play the now legendary 100 Punk Festival, where as well as doing their own set they supported guitar hero Chris Spedding. Chris recommended the band to his record company, Rak. The band's debut single 'We Vibrate' came out in November 1976 and was one of the first punk singles.
The Vibrators made their debut on Epic with the classic 'Baby Baby' which was followed by the album 'Pure Mania' which peaked at 49 in the charts. A second single was released from the album 'London Girls' and the band toured supporting Ian Hunter. Pat Collier left and was replaced by Gary Tibbs. The bands next release in March 1978 'Automatic Lover' reached 35 in the charts and earned the band a Top Of The Pops appearance. A second album 'V2'was released in April and reached 33 in the charts and is still regarded as one of New Wave's finest moments. Other line-up changes occurred but the singles continued 'Judy Says', 'Gimme Some Lovin', 'Disco In Moscow', 'Baby Baby' (re-recorded), 'MX America', 'Flying Home', 'Baby Blue Eyes' and 'Blown Away By Love'. Many albums were released including 'Guilty', 'Alaska 127', 'Recharged', 'Meltdown' and 1997's 'French Lessons With Correction' as well as numerous reissues.
