ALIEN SEX FIEND: The Singles 1983-1995 (1996)

In the wake of shock rock's introduction to the mainstream via Marilyn Manson, it is easy to forget that several bands toiled in the underground making much better noise with similar theatrics. One such artist is Nik Wade, known to fans as "Nik Fiend," the creative mind behind Alien Sex Fiend. On this retrospective, 23 examples of the Fiend sound are packaged together, and the various strengths and weaknesses of Wade's vision poke their way through. The biggest problem is simply song length; both "E.S.T." and "Inferno (Oscar Madness Mix)" are way too long and the album drags in both spots. In a few other instances, most notably "Bun Ho," there is very little going on even if the track is not that long. These add to the overlong, dragging feel of the album. But then absolute classics like "New Christian Music," "Smells Like...," and the horror rock anthem "Now I'm Feeling Zombiefied" rear their ugly heads and the legend of Alien Sex Fiend is redeemed. The centerpiece of the collection is "I Walk the Line," an underground classic that defines the attitude that Wade was trying to express. Devoid of the band's wonderfully campy visual theatrics, this is only half of what Alien Sex Fiend is really about. Those wishing to get an idea of how ahead of its time the band was should try to find a live video first. But much of the music here is really good, and this is a perfect example of what any Alien Sex Fiend album would be like: a few classics mixed in with a few overlong borefests. by Bradley Torreano

Tracks: ignore the machine / lips can't go / R.I.P. / new christian music / dead and buried / E.S.T. (trip to the moon) / ignore the machine (electro mix) / i'm doing time in a maximum security twilight home / i walk the line / smells like... / hurricane fight plane / the impossible mission / here cum germs / stuff the turkey / bun ho! / haunted house / now i'm feeling zombified / magic / inferno (oscar madness mix by youth) / inferno (vocal radio edit) / here cum germs (ravi mix #9) / stuff the turkey (bootiful dub) / bun ho! (time gentlemen please).

Great upload! Would it be possible for you to upload some more of classic 80's goth, batcave, post punk, death rock etc.?

Thanks so much for sharing the Alien Sex Fiend Singles collection in such a good quality rip, all your hard work is really appreciated.
I must admit that I dismissed Alien Sex Fiend all throughout the eighties and ninieties, thinking they were some kind of 'joke' goth band and yet listening now, its they who have the last laugh as some of the tracks sound like they could be released next Thursday and no-one would bat(cave) an eyelid. The dub and remix tracks are especially worth listening to, real psychedelic dancefloor material that blows the majority of the current dance/electronica/house/techno releases out of the water.

If anyone knows where I could get a link for the "At The Controls' album released I think in 1999 which features a whole albums worth of ASF dubs and remixes, I would be so appreciative (or maybe do a swap).....I am so glad your blog escaped the recent google culling, so many good blogs just gone and so many bad copyist ones still standing...blogs like yours keep my faith in human nature ticking along!

I finally found a rip of the uber-rare 'Fiend At The Controls' record:

If anyone ever comes across a rip of their 12 Inch collection called "R.I.P (yeah a rip of RIP!) could they post the link here!

According to the blog I found 'Fiend At The Controls Part One & Two', ASF are eventually going to re-release this record! Great news!
