These dutch guys don't make music they make truly oi anthems..The vocalist reminds me a lot of Mike Ness from Social Distortion...great stuff guys...It actually started of as a solo project. Under the influence of oi and rock n’ roll I once began to write my own material on the acoustic guitar. Together with Wouter (Razorblade/Rebellion Records) we even formed a band called The Hammers. A stable line up was unfortunately never found so after a little while we called it a day. Refusing to give up Wouter and I started a band called Lynch Boys. With this band we chose to play more rockabilly orientated music, covering Johnny Cash and such. This band also had a short life. In the meanwhile I wrote myself enough songs to fill a complete album. When Wouter decided to start a music label he immediately approached me to record an album. Together with a few guest musicians we went into the studio to record “False Gestures”. After the album was released I had to search for new bandmembers. First I came in touch with Niels Venrooy from the band Offside. He was willing to join the band and approached Eef Hendriks (one of the guitarists from Offside) to play the guitar in Badlands. Niels also found us a new drummer called Sander v/d Hoogen, who used to play drums in a band called Cavehead Violence. With this line up we’ve recorded three songs for the compilation album “Brabantia Nostra” and a second full-length. Source >>>> http://www.punkoiuk.co.uk/interviews/badlands.htm

STREETLIGHT MANIFESTO
Keasbey Nights (2006)
Label: Victory Records
Format: CD
Ripped: EAC mp3 (320kbps)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

I loved Keasbey Nights when it was released in 1998. It was a GREAT album and everytime I listened to it I loved it more and more and more. Then Tomas left and Catch 22 lost their sound. When Tomas left Catch 22 their sound left as well. Then Tomas formed Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution which only released one EP. Then after that Streetlight Manifesto was formed. Everything Goes Numb was the start of a great movement. Then in 2006 I heard word of SM redoing Keasbey Nights which puzzled me a bit but I couldn't wait. Then it finally came out and of course I bought it. Right from the start you can notice that this is not the same album at all. This album is like taking crude oil and refining it into gasoline. Catch 22's Keasbey Nights was crude oil and SM's Keasbey Nights is gasoline. This is the way Keasbey Nights was supposed to sound. Don't listen to others who say "oh this is the same damn CD as Catch 22's there's no difference here I waisted $$$ on this damn thing" f*ck them this CD is not the same. The only thing the same here is the title of the CD, the order of the songs, and the names of the songs. Besides that this is a completely different CD with some added lyrics to some of the songs. I guarantee you won't be disappointed by buying this. I sure as hell know I wasn't. I almost threw out the old Keasbey Nights after buying this it is that good. - - Manny Moses (Ft Lauderdale, FL) - -

MOVING TARGETS
Brave Noise & Burning in Water (1993)
Label: Taang! Records
Format: CD
Ripped: EAC mp3 (192kbps HQ)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

The Moving Targets' 1986 album Burning in Water is one of the most devastating underground pop albums ever released. Ken Chambers and co. take the power trio format to the ultimate, laying thick melodic guitar lines over an aggressive rhythm section. The music bears a certain similarity to Mission of Burma, but infused with power and urgency reminiscent of Husker Du. Well crafted, thought provoking music. Brave Noise, released two years later, reflects a more mature approach. The music is less frantic, more subtle, but no less compelling.

HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

This is classic mid 80's California Punk. Christ on Parade were from San Francisco, CA and formed in the mid 1980s. To the best of my knowledge, they toured the US once opening for some bigger band like 7 Seconds or someone like that. This was their first record and it was released on Pushead’s label. After this record, they would part ways with their original singer and Noah, who played guitar, would handle the lead vocal duties. I do not know why the original guy left. The band put out a pair of 7″s and one more LP before disbanding. Source >>> The Punk Vault

Similar to their early releases, powerful & melodic music. Good stuff, not as routined as their more recent material. [8].
In Deutschland erschienene (mini-)LP der Kalifornier, hier eher noch im "alten" Stil, der nicht gar so routiniert wirkt wie auf ihren neueren Platten. WITHIN REACH
Strenght Through Diversity (1997)
Label: Sidekicks
Format: CD
Ripped: EAC mp3 (VBR - HQ)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

The story of WITHIN REACH goes back in the beginning of 1996 when the ex. members and long-time friends of LIFELESS IMAGE (1990-1995, 1 Mcd + a couple of compilations out) and PASSAGE 4 (1992-1996, 1 CD, 2 Cds + numerous compilations out), Magnus Törnkvist (vocals), Jocke Eriksson (drums), Magnus Brolin (bass) and Björn Hahne (guitars) hooked up together for some old school hardcore in the vein of the classic New York-sound. After only a couple of weeks of rehearsing they were offered a slot on the Penalty comp. on Wounded Records. They accepted and recorded 2 songs within 4 hours in Studio Punkpalace w/ Mathias from MILLENCOLIN behind the buttons. At this time WITHIN REACH sucked big time but things got better...fast! By the end of spring `96 a self-released CDs entitled "The Light Will Return" was released and at this time some recordlabels showed interest. The new label Sidekicks Records (Burning Heart sublabel) were soon home for WITHIN REACH. Due to drummer Jocke´s success w/ punkrockers PASSAGE 4, WITHIN REACH wasn´t top priority for anyone but since they broke up later that year all efforts went to WITHIN REACH.
In the fall of `96 they entered Studio Underground to record the MCD "Something´s Not Right" (Sidekicks Records/Jabsco 002), followed by shows all over Sweden. The first half of `97 were spent in various studios, recording songs for different compilations (of which none ever came out!) as well as doing weekend gigs w/ the new school heroes BURST. Later that year, the 16-track CD "Strength Through Diversity" (Sidekicks Records/Jabsco 004) was released and got great reviews in magazines and fanzines worldwide. The best comment so far came from german OX which claimed that "if this record came out in the 80´s it would belong to the classics". However their style wasn´t 100% old school any longer as they let their punk, metal and rock´n roll influences shine through.
Just before WITHIN REACH went on a tour to Poland they invited Robin Sundqvist of PASSAGE 4 for extra guitar licks. With some new fresh blood in the band everything started to sound the way it should. The first taste of this "change" can be heard on the 1125/WITHIN REACH split 7" EP (Shing Industry) which includes a cool version of the GERMS classic "Lexicon Devil". In the end of´ `98 the last and best recording for Sidekicks "Reconsider/Reconstruct" (Jabsco 020) got them a crazy tour in Spain. After that Sidekicks and Within Reach came to a mutual agreement (not related to the 'crazy tour' in any way…) and separated in good faith. After some trouble in the band they called it quits in 2001.

SAMIAM
Search & Destroy (1999)
Label: Blackout
Format: CDEP
Ripped: EAC mp3 (192kbps)

This EP is the closest thing to a live album that Samiam has done. Four live songs that span a decade of the band's life dot this recording, including fan favorites "Bad Day" from Clumsy and "Don't Break Me" from Billy. But the album's gem is the cover song, the blazing cover of Iggy and the Stooges' "Search and Destroy." Samiam somehow manages to smooth out the rough edges of the original while keeping up the song's intensity -- no small feat. Also appearing is "Factory" off You Are Freaking Me Out; a vintage Samiam song detailing the tribulations of the working class. - - by Ron DePasquale - -

OI POLLOI
Guilty (1993)
Format: EP
Ripped: from Vinyl mp3 (192kbps)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

We're an anarcho-punk band based in Edinburgh in Scotland. Simply put, we're interested in making rocking punk music that will hopefully make people think and inspire action to make our world a better place. We've been playing together in our current incarnation for over five years now but prior to that the band has been touring and making records continuously since 1981. We're always happy to play benefit fund-raising gigs for good causes and to contribute tracks for similar fund-raising compilation LPs or CDs. We're not interested in the mainstream music business and prefer to organise our releases and tours through the underground DIY punk network. In recent years we've begun to record and release material in the indigenous Celtic language of Scotland, Gaelic (see the blog for more on this). The band name however comes from the ancient Greek phrase "Hoi Polloi" meaning "the mob, the ordinary people, the rabble". This phrase is used in the UK today by upper class rich people when looking down their noses at the ordinary common folk. Back in 1981 it also had a link to a type of hard punk music known as "Oi!" which was characterised by shouted vocals and sing-along crowd choruses of the type that we played at the time and still often favour today. While it later came to attract a certain amount of right-wing idiots, "Oi!" music at this time in Edinburgh just meant good music for ordinary kids that was also about bringing punks and sussed skinheads and other kids together in unity. You'll see a lot of rubbish written on the web about where the term "Oi!" came from but the truth is that it was a term coined by a music journalist from the now defunct music paper "Sounds" and is an exclamation commonly used in East London (where a lot of these bands originally came from) to attract attention as in "Oi you! Listen to me, I've got something to say!". The word originally comes from slang used by the large Jewish community in the East End - the same folk that gave Mosley's fascist blackshirts a bloody nose in the Battle of Cable Street in 1936 - quite appropriate really. Part of the Bay Area punk revival of the late '80s and early '90s, Samiam specialized in the catchy, anthemic punk-pop typical of the Warped Tour crowd, but separated themselves with a greater debt to hardcore and a more introspective lyrical bent that won over emo audiences. Formed in 1988, most of the band's founding members had played in other Berkeley-area punk groups: vocalist Jason Beebout had been in Isocracy with bassist Martin Brohm; guitarist Sergie Loobkoff had been a drummer for Sweet Baby Jesus; and second guitarist James Brogan had been in Social Unrest. Drummer Mark Mortinsen -- the first of many -- completed the charter Samiam lineup, which caused an immediate stir on the Gilman Street punk scene with its local-supergroup pedigree. - - by Steve Huey - -

CHAOS UK
Flogging The Corpse (1995)
Label: Cleopatra
Format: CD
Ripped: EAC mp3 (128kbps)
HHA Rating: 10
pw - hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Punk rock heroes Chaos UK began its long journey in 1979, with a lineup consisting of vocalist Simon, guitarist Andy, bassist Kaos, and drummer Potts. They eventually signed with Riot City Records and released two 7" records in 1982. That same year, they released an eponymous LP with a slightly different lineup. Kaos had moved to vocals, and new members Spot and Nige took over on drums and bass, respectively. They left the label soon after and disappeared until 1984's Lawless Britain, also known as Short Sharp Shock, which came out on Children of the Revolution Records. They also had a new lineup at this point, now featuring singer Mower, drummer Chuck, guitarist Gabba, and Kaos. An interesting minor controversy would result from this album, as Michelle Shocked would release an album called Short Sharp Shocked with virtually the same cover art, much to the band's dismay. The lineup actually lasted to the next album, 1986's Radioactive Earslaughter, which came out at the same time as a split disc with Extreme Noise Terror. Without any real reason, they went into semi-retirement almost immediately afterwards, staying out of the music scene until 1989, which saw the release of Chipping Sodbury Bonfire Tapes on their own Slap Up Records. The title was a dig at Shocked, who had an album titled The Texas Campfire Tapes. Mower would soon leave the band, bringing Kaos back to vocals and bringing in Beki on bass. The Live in Japan album was recorded in 1991 (although it came out three years later), but after their tour of the east they would lose Chuck and replace him with Devilman. They also added a second guitarist, Vic (ex-Reagan Youth). This lineup would release the Making Half a Killing album soon after (the title is a play on another Extreme Noise Terror split disc). 1993 saw the release of One Hundred Percent Two Fingers in the Air on Century Media Records. New drummer Phil Thudd and new bassist J. signed on for King for a Day (1996), Morning After the Night Before (1996), and Heard It, Seen It, Done It (1997), but Devilman was still in the band and even played on the albums while Beki had since left. Members of the band began to start side projects, including A.D. Rice and the Wuzzuks, but they still released Total Chaos in 1999 and Chaos in Japan in 2001. - - by Bradley Torreano - - Allmusic.com

Springing from the fertile grounds of Boston's parochial hardcore punk-rock scene, Moving Targets are a little-known but seminal link in a chain that joins hardcore and other early-'80s Boston music strains like collegiate art rock and folk-rock to '90s alternative rock. Forming in 1981 around the songwriting, blistering guitar work, and emotive vocals of Kenny Chambers, the original power trio included bassist/vocalist Pat Leonard and the strong-man drumming of Pat Brady. After a few years of trying to scrape together gigs in the competitive early-'80s Boston rock club scene, Moving Targets' first significant exposure came in 1984 via Bands That Could Be God (Conflict/Radiobeat), a record of various Massachusetts punk and post-punk bands compiled by Gerard Cosloy, the soon-to-be head of the Homestead and Matador record labels. The LP included three songs recorded with Lou Giordano, one of the founding producers of Boston's legendary Fort Apache studio. Giordano had worked with the influential Minneapolis trio Hüsker Dü, who were clearly a major influence for the Targets. - - by Bill Janovitz - - Allmusic

Label: Honest Don's Hardy Used

Ripped: EAC mp3 (VBR - HQ)

pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

This is a pretty average cd by Nerf herder and is not on par with the s/t and how to meet girls but still produces some good songs like Jenna bush army, Mr spock and jacket. The track which insults the fender squire is probably the worst on American cheese as whats wrong with the squire it's the quality of the player what counts and the general concept of the songs pretty dumb. I'd get How to meet girls and the s/t release before even thinking of getting American cheese as it's not really up to the quality that nerf herder usually releases the humours even quite tame on American cheese aswell.

This is a seminal record from the early 90's and probably the groups best album. This is one of the few albums i keep going back too faithfully, it has become timeless and will offer something new to first time listensers. All the heavey music fans of this day, ie. 16 to 21 yrs age, need to listen to this album to understand why some of the older generations find todays heavey alt. music unoriginal and another flash in the pan.a must have album to any alt.rock or alt.altrock, and heavy music fan.

Why is it the previous reviewer has a problem with a record made by people who may or may not have bought a hardcore record in 12 years? Could it possibly be that hardcore has evolved into something other than what they now relate to? Why would their preference for hardcore of a certain era indicate an arrogance? Has it become mandatory that, bands considered hardcore, must only be influenced by contemporary hardcore? Just some questions I'd like to ask someone who won't accept music by people above some arbitrary age and/or weight. It's a good record, not a great record, a good record by guys who've been around a long time and still love old hardcore. I think I know why so much of today's hardcore and music in general sounds the same - People like the last reviewer.

CHELSEA
The Punk Singles Collection (1998)
Label: Captain Oi! Records
Format: CD
Ripped: EAC MP3 (VBR - HQ)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

"Old school" punk bands are a dime a dozen, you say. Well, you might be right. There were just as many talentless bandwagon-jumpers in 1977 that based their entire musical careers on 1 Sex Pistols song as there were talentless bandwagon-jumpers in 1988 that based their musical careers on 1 Bad Religion song. But look hard enough, and you'll find the diamonds amongst the trash. Chelsea are those diamonds.
Gene October milled about in the punk scene for a while, going through literally countless lineups for Chelsea by the time Chelsea's first album was released in 1979. It was a great example of working class, angry, midtempo punk rock. He would go on to record 2 more worthy albums, 1980's Alternative Hits, and 1982's Evacuate, before stumbling into musical oblivion. All three of these albums are worthy of praise, and stand significantly above most of the garbage that got thrown around in that era, all in the name of Punk.
Honestly, I would recommend you purchase all three of Chelsea's landmark albums, as they are all consistently exciting slabs of punk, even after all these years. But if you limit yourself to just one Chelsea CD, this will serve that purpose. The only problem is all of the B-Sides that inevitably show up to mar a "Singles Collection" such as this. Especially when there are truly great album tracks that are nowhere to be found on the disc.
Gene October was a worthy songwriter, and produced too many memorable punk tunes to be forgotten, or lumped in with hoards of cut-rate UK punk bands. Chelsea were better than most. The Damned, Sex Pistols, Ruts, Chron Gen, Anti-Pasti, Adverts, Drones, UK Subs, Abrasive Wheels, 999, Adicts, Sham 69, Eater, Lurkers, Vibrators... all great bands. But NONE of them have THREE top-rank albums, perhaps one or two, but not three. Other than The Clash, and Stiff Little Fingers, I can't think of any politically oriented punk band of the period with three great albums.

COCKNEY REJECTS
The Power & The Glory (1999)
Label: Captain Oi! Records
Format: CD
Ripped: EAC mp3 (VBR - HQ)
HHA Rating: 9,5
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Inspired by the critically reviled working-class punk of Sham 69, the Cockney Rejects helped give voice to the punksubgenre tagged Oi!, partly thanks to the group's 1980 song "Oi! Oi! Oi!" The Rejects' sound was loud, brash, and crudely performed, with an irreverent sense of humor and an inclination towards mindless anarchy that made them appealing to frustrated lower-class youth and, unfortunately, the more extreme right-wing racist faction amongst the growing skinhead movement, an association the group did not encourage but for which they were soundly berated. Vocalist Jefferson Turner, guitarist Micky Geggus, bassist Vince Riordan, and drummer Keith Warrington were discovered in London's East End by Sham 69 singer Jimmy Pursey, who helped the group get a record deal. The Rejects' initial output was voluminous; their first two albums were both released in 1980 and jokingly titled Greatest Hits, Vols. 1 and 2. Greatest Hits
Vol. 3 (Live and Loud), featuring "live" versions of their best-known songs (actually recorded in a studio with an audience), and The Power and the Glory followed in 1981. The latter album found the group trying to broaden their approach, employing acoustic guitars and a more melodic orientation. 1982's The Wild Ones marked a shift towards heavy metal; unsure of their direction, the Rejects eventually disbanded in 1985, with several compilations of live and unreleased material appearing (1985's Unheard Rejects, 1987's Live and Loud!! The Bridgehouse Tapes). The Cockney Rejects reunited in 1990 for the album Lethal, which failed to make much of an impression. STIFF LITTLE FINGERS
Handheld and Rigidly Digital (1999)
Format: CD
Ripped: EAC mp3 (VBR)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

I can only say how delighted with it I am. Particularly since it includes some songs which were previously unavailable on CD ('race you to the grave'; 'she grew up', 'drinkin' again') and others which are here recorded live for the first time ('Last train', 'Hope Street', 'You can get it', 'Forensic evidence'). Can I suggest that this trend be continued in future live albums- too often the track listing of SLF live albums is broadly speaking the same from one live album to the next- we all have about 10 live versions of 'Suspect Device' when perhaps we would prefer to have the novelty of a live version of 'Bloody Sunday' or 'Half a Life away'- please think about this guys next time you know you're being recorded.
The new CD includes a well-deserved dedication to Shirley Sexton and is worth buying just for that reason! Another nice thing is the packaging. A group achieving platinum sales would be proud of the packaging here. This is a rarity for SLF- although the first 3 SLF studio albums had good sleeves, only 'Hope Street' has stood out for its artwork since then and SLF fans have been subjected to the worst sleeve design of all time on 'Get a Life'. As if all this wasn't enough reason to buy this new box set you also get a booklet in which Jake Burns explains each of the songs on the Hope Street album. So go on, reach for your credit cards--it's well worth it.

A must have for any punkrocker. This was Zoinks first full length album put out by Dr.Strange records. It features their classic cover of the theme song from greatest american hero. And, as with Stranger Anxiety, it features original lead singer Zach. I loved Well and Good, but there was definitely something missing after Zach left the band. Soap Factory and Uma 14 Times and Susy Bright are some of my favorite tracks. RAMONES
We're Outta Here! (Live) (2003)
Label: Eagle Rock/Eagle
Format: CD
Ripped: mp3 (128kbps)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

1997 live release that's deleted domestically. The punk icon's 'last show' (2,263rd) recorded at Billboard Live August 6,1996. 32 tracks. Maybe you can tell by the song selection or the title, but this is the exact same cd you got in the "We're Outta Here" collection, just without the video. All the artwork is the same as well, so if you have "We're Outta Here", you really should save your money unless you really have to collect everything. If you don't have their last show on cd, this would have to be it, since "We're Outta Here" seems to be out of stock (at least as i'm writing this).
Not really being a fan of the later, faster live Ramones, I still gave it 4 stars cause the songs are great, & I like the cool guest stars.

BROKEN BONES
F.O.A.D. (Fuck Of and Die) (1986)
Label: Beer City Records
Format: LP (Vinyl)
Ripped: mp3 (160kbps)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Broken Bones is from England and were formed by guitarist Tony "Bones" Roberts in 1983 after he left Discharge. The original lineup was comprised of Tony's brother Tezz (also a former member of Discharge) on bass, Nobby as the vocalist and drummer Bazz. Their first single release was the January 1984 "Decapitated". The follow up single "Crucifix" was released in May of 1984.
More followed in F.O.A.D's footsteps. They took a more thrash metal approach on Losing Control. With this album original members Nobby, Baz and Tezz, left with bassist Oddy and vocalist Quiv filling the lineup. Two more were to follow with the 12 inch release "Religion is Responsible" and another album "Stitched Up". After these albums release, the band's touring and recording fell into remission.
In 1998 Broken Bones reformed. They released their first studio album in 8 years, "Without Conscience" in 2001 and in 2004, they released "Time For Anger, Not Justice". Both albums bring the band back to their roots as they play the brand of hardcore they're most well known for. They still gig and tour regularly to this day. They were the last band to play before 2006's ill-fated British Invasion concert in San Bernardino was shut down. It is said that they had a part in helping to provoke the riot, but no proof has surfaced to prove these claims.

30 FOOT FALL
Cartoons
Format: CD EP
Ripped: mp3 (192kbps)
Style: Melodic Punk
HHA Rating: 7,5
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

With nothing to do in Houston but sweat, starting a band was the only solution to have fun, stay indoors and out of the heat. How ironic is it that the only way to judge your success in the Bayou City is to try and cram 800 people in an upstairs non-air-conditioned attic of a venue in the middle of August? This band has done just that for the last six years. Logging in nearly 500 shows, selling over 20,000 CD's, tapes and 7-inches, with five releases, and at least 10,000 T-shirts, all lead to 30footFALL becoming the notorious punk rock sellouts of the local scene. Well, not really. They still have to work full-time jobs, except for the lazy ones. With countless miles, three vans, five replaced engines, 16 new tires, and about a million gallons of gas, 30footFALL has trekked across the country enough times to make any red blooded American grandparents proud.

APA kind of sputtered to life in '93, but was put on "hiatus" while I played in Time Bomb 77 in '94-'95. In '96 I started APA up again with Stuart SOB on bass, and Bunny Rabid on drums. Current line-up is Chet Da Bastard Knight (guitar/vocals), Stuart SOB (bass), Warren Hate Bailey (guitar) and Amos Insane (drums). Some call it "Skunk Rock", which isn't a bad description. Very early 80's style punk/Oi! with some '77, and even some old US hardcore. It's hard to pigeon-hole, which is something we're proud of I suppose. Lyrically we sing about real life issues, but not the beer/fighting cop-out that passes for Oi/punk in some circles. If the lyrics are ever political (and I guess they sometimes are), it's street politics that effect our everyday lives, not some Crass booklet copycatting bullshit.

THE ACCUSED
Maddest Stories Ever Told (1988)
Label: Combat Records
Format: CD
Ripped: mp3 (128kbps)
Genre: Hardcore/Crossover
HHA Rating: 9.0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Formed in 1981 in Oak Harbor, Washington by bassist Chibon Batterman, Dana Collins and guitarist Tom Niemeyer. John Dahlin was the vocalist from 1983-1984, when the addition of Blaine Cook (frontman of Seattle hardcore punk group The Fartz) caused the band to progress towards a more heavy metal-based sound. The band dubbed their style--distinguished by Blaine's unusual choking-sound vocals, buzzsaw guitars, dark metallic riffs, and rapid-fire drumming--"splatter rock," and recorded five full-length albums between their inception and 1990s hiatus. The Accused regrouped in 2003, playing live shows in the Seattle area, and then recorded the album "Oh, Martha!". This "comeback record" landed on Revolver magazine's Top Ten albums of the year and "Writer's Lists" from Metal Maniacs magazine. However, that line-up was short-lived. In 2005 3 members left to form another band they had been developing, Toe Tag. Undaunted, Niemeyer recruited replacement members, Brad Mowen (Apes of Wrath, Sweaty Nipples, et al.); Mike Peterson (Bam Bam, Mommy, Suffering Fuckheads); and Prof. Iman A. Phid (Father Shark-The Pleasure Elite) to continue The Accused legacy.
Niemeyer kept the loyal fan-base happy with a limited run of do-it-yourself CD-ROM releases of previously un-released material and a Limited Edition DVD-R of live concert footage made available via the band's website. Niemeyer also saw to it that three classic 1980's out-of-print titles by The Accused are scheduled to be released by Nuclear Blast Records of Germany to be available throughout Europe sometime in 2007. Current collectors are seeing copies of these rare/out-of-print U.S. made CD's fetch prices upwards of $400.00 to $500.00 each on popular auction website eBay. With increased demand and a string of recent succesful shows in Canada and the Pacific Northwest, Niemeyer and The Accused continue to march onward into 2007.

APOCALYPSE HOBOKEN
Date Rape Nation (1994)
Label: Johann's Face Records
Format: Double sided 7-inches
Ripped: From originial Vinyl format (160kbps)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Our first release on Johann's Face, this was originally going to be a single 7-inch with "Pop Sensibilities", "Girl", "Microscopic", and "Drunk Helen". I guess that wouldn't have been too bad. We also attempted a re-make of "Mealy Mouth" (with Ken and Bob Bollweevils), but it just didn't work out. "Sixteen" was recorded and passed up in favor of "Hopeless and Fucked". "All American" and "13" were recorded too. The cover photo is Todd's then-girlfriend Jenny DeKneef from her high school days. The back cover photo has Darryl (Bollweevils), Pete (Oblivion), and Jason Jackson and Steve (Dyslexic Records) in it which we thought was pretty cool. Brian Peterson took the insert photos while we were playing Punk Fest in Ontario, Canada (and he never got credit. Ha!). Kurdt's friend, "Man", took some photos, too. The title was a play on Sonic Youth's double album Daydream Nation, though no one got the joke, (you know, double 7", double album......). This record and Jerk Lessons were released on CD with bonus live tracks recorded by John Emerson at Tunnels of Fun and Elgin's 3rd Floor. The fact that this was not noted on the CD is ENTIRELY KURDT'S FAULT!!!!

Easy Instructions For Complex Machinery (1995) ** out of print

pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Todd insisted on this title, and even had a lyric by the same title, but never used it. We had to record this quickly to finish it for our summer tour, so we've always had little bitches about it. We finally got to do a Nip Drivers song, and I think we did a Freeze cover, too (now there's an original idea). Whereas on past releases Bill and Scott did the majority of the songwriting, now everyone was gettin involved, which made it really fun and different. The cover was our take on The Rolling Stones' "Exile On Main Street", though the only thing we ever heard about it was, "Why are the KKK on the cover? Do you like the KKK? You're going to get in TROUBLE!" As of today, we still haven't gotten 'in trouble', Punk Rock is soooo daring these days. Also, the song "Kicking My Head In" was taken a little too literally. While we were trying to poke holes in "homophobic logic", some people just didn't understand the black humor we intend to inject into our songs. ("Gay Parade" has nothing to do with gay people, by the way). The first song should be a dead give-away as to how we feel about those who take everything at face value. "Little Red Riding Hood" became a regular set closer, and I think we've played "Sorry" live twice. "So Emotional", one of our favorite songs, with guest vocals by Tom Little Face from Sidekick Kato, has never been played live, because screaming for three minutes straight makes Todd a dull boy. "Dean Is a Punk", I think, is about someone in particular, not named Dean, though. The "Baby" (LP insert, CD back cover) is Todd's baby brother, Skylar.

pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

An album that shows once and for all that "the road" can do some fucked-up things to a guy. A definitive step away from the past, and into an uncertain future, this album was us rejecting all notions of what's "happening" in punk rock and emo and rock, etc., and getting back to why we play music in the first place. Recorded with Dave Trumfio (Pulsars) at King Size Sound Labs, "Microstars" is where we're at right now.. There are bits of everything we've ever done included, but now in the context of tighter song arrangements, some honest to goodness singing, and (gasp) keyboards on half the songs. HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Stiff Little Fingers, the musical bridge between The Clash and The Vandals, are back, and they're still better than anyone else around. Utilizing their own guitar and drums, they show these new lame-o whippersnappers how to write REAL pop-punk. Okay, to be fair, some of the songs feel long and the choruses tend to be repetitive. But still - this is a great album of fresh material (they sound like bands half their age), and it's a ton of fun to listen to.These punkers are still going strong with Guitar and Drum being one of their best albums in years. The second track, "Strummerville" very emotional tribute to the late Joe Strummer. Guitar and Drum still rings of the rebellion they started with combines with the wisdom of age.

HHA Rating: 9.0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

When Devo's debut album came out in 1978, nobody knew what to make of the mutant new-wave quintet from Akron, Ohio. With Brian Eno's skillful production, Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh, Jerry and Bob Casale, and Alan Myers emerged fully formed and outrageous with their razor-sharp social commentary and exhibition of subversive media savvy. Beyond their industrial uniforms and pseudo-devolved demeanor, Devo also happened to be a rocking little band. Classic rave-outs like "Mongoloid," "Jocko Homo," and "Uncontrollable Urge" illustrate the band's perky-jerky intensity. On their inimitable cover of the Rolling Stones' youth anthem, "Satisfaction," Devo's avant-garde robot funk takes the song to a new level of alienation and discontent. While the band went on to greater fame, this was the only album they made that truly mattered. --Mitch Meyers

THE UNDERTONES
Hypnotized (1980)
Label: Rykodisc
Format: CD
Ripped: mp3 (128kbps - average)
Style: Classic Punk - Pop Punk
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

My tastes in music have been very eclectic, having run the gamut in genres throughout my 25-plus years of collecting music. This LP has always been one of my favorites. I first heard the Undertones "Hypnotised" LP shortly after it was released, having been a instant follower of the group after hearing their self-entitled debut LP. My older sister had both LPs, as she was tuned into punk by a local promoter who would bring punk bands to our area. She saw the Undertones perform locally in about 1979. I believe she told me the second floor nearly caved in from the pogo dancing at the venue. I didn't have to ever go to a concert to get caught up in what these guys were laying down for us. It was almost like punk rock meeting bubble gum music, but there's nothing corny about it. It has a sticky sweet and humorous side to it, but the humor is full of the sarcasm you'd expect from the punk rock movement. The guitar is edgy, fast, loud and the drumming drives the beat forward like any early Clash effort. The tunes are catchy and the lead singer Feargel Sharkey's voice is utterly unique.
"Hypnotised" songs revolve around these Irish boys coming of age. It's a retrospective look back for them. I liken it to taking carousel ride at the neighborhood carnival. All the sites and smells of your youth come back to you in one dizzying moment. It's like getting hit with a bucket of teenage angst and the wonder of it all. The first six tracks on this LP are rock solid. I like "Whizz Kids," "See That Girl," and "There Goes Norman" the most, but it's tough to forget their cover version of "Under The Boardwalk" for me. "Boys Will Be Boys" encapsulates the LP's theme. "My Perfect Cousin" was an instant classic. Best thing about this CD is that they add some bonus singles to the mix that were never released on any of their LPs. "You've Got My Number (Why Don't You Use It)" is one of my absolute favorite tunes by this band. They just threw it on the CD for good measure. - - by T. Duane Peters and Corey Parks, the rude 'n' tattooed fun couple of punk, finally get to collaborate on the viciously raging Long Legs, the first Hunns album to feature the 6 foot-plus ex-Nashville Pussy vixen. She brings to the table driving basslines and an effective vocal counterpoint to Peters' snotty rasp, but the focus is still the ex-U.S. Bombs frontman and his unceasing font of bad attitude. This is catchy, dirty, ugly-as-hell punk rock-after all, nobody wants songs like "Love & Hate," "Animals" (which should throw PETA into a nice tizzy) and "Burn in Hell" to sound like pleasant ditties for a Sunday afternoon, do they? Kudos especially to the brutal cover of the Chambers Brothers' "Time Has Come Today," the only version of this alleged classic I've ever been able to stand. - Michael Toland /

POP SICKLE
Under the Influences (1993)
Label: C/Z Records
Format: CD
Ripped: mp3 (128kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 7,0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Side-project Northwest trio of Rob Skinner from Coffin Break on bass/vocals, with help from Alcohol Funnycar guitarist Ben London and Gits drummer Steve Moriarty (the latter two have since been replaced as this "project" became a full-time band). The press info lists Buzzcocks, the Jam and the Beatles as influences (they even own up to filching "Noises in the Dark" from the Beatles' White Album spine-tingler "Dear Prudence," a song "Velvet Crush" also brazenly pilfered on their wonderful debut 7" "If Not True"), but truth be told, this rippin' sound recalls post-hardcore, '80s Dischord-era Washington D.C. bands like Gray Matter, Rites of Spring, Marginal Man, Dag Nasty, and to a lesser extent, Embrace, Scream and later GIs. Pop Sickle are above average, crunching power pop-punk, with earnest singing and proficient harmonies like that of Descendants/All. More "Influences" (as per LP title) include Boston's Mission of Burma, though it's amusing that Pop Sickle cover the immortal "That's When I Reach for My Revolver"; it's a truly classic song (from 1981's Signals, Calls and Marches) and this is an OK version (that slavishly re-creates the original), but out of the forty or fifty songs MOB released, everybody does this one song! (or "Academy Fight Song") -- in other words, this is half as good as Catherine Wheel's version, and about on par with Euthanasia's and four or five others. Overall, it's a decent LP and they score points for the gentle, sweet, quiet song that closes here "Sleep." We've heard this style hundreds of times, but this thrown-together group is skilled enough to pass muster.- - by Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover - - allmusic.com

This is, in fact, one of the best rock records in the world, whether you like punk and oi or not. Every single song is amazing. The production is not utterly clear, but that adds some of its charm. The standout tracks are hard to distinguish because, as stated above, every single track is so amazing. Propaganda may be the greatest; but Time Bomb is also stunning, and Warriors is truly anthemic (20 years ago, when I was 16, it was all I could listen to). Youth is also anthemic. I can recommend this marvelous record enough.

This album was difficult to write, record and release. It had two different singers on it. Jimi Haze sang tracks 1 through 7 and Harvey Moody sang tracks 8 through 11.
It's safe to say that the departure and replacement of a band member during the recording of an album is quite an experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But, maybe because of or in spite of that this album still had some good songs on it. Some good firsts for a couple of the band members. Like, first time to record at the famed Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood. And firsts, but different firsts for the others. It was the beginning of the end of CP. That end would come after one more album after this one.
These two last albums (Messiah Complex and 3 Chord Pile-up) were really two halves of the last section of the band. The demise finally coming two years later in '95.

The Forgotten Rebels are a punk rock band from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. With roots dating back to 1977 right up until the present time, the Forgotten Rebels have left a legacy of seven albums and a collection of EPs and singles that have influenced many other Canadian and international bands forming in their wake. Although the band went through many lineup changes over the last 28 years, Mickey DeSadist (vocals) and Dave McGhire (drums) remained the creative foundation of the group through most of its history. McGhire quit in 2003 leaving DeSadist as sole survivor. The main song writers were: Mickey DeSadist, Dave McGhire and Chris Houston.

ANN BERETTA is a three-piece punk rock outfit from Richmond, VA. Often compared to bands such as RANCID, THE CLASH, THE JAM, and SWINGIN' UTTERS, ANN BERETTA take straight forward punk rock, combine it with rockabilly, a little country, and a whole lotta rock-n-roll and create cool, rocking' and catchy tunes that have become hits with kids across the world. ANN BERETTA has spent most of the last two and a half years touring, both headlining and supporting bands such as ALL, AVAIL, THE BOUNCING SOULS, THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES, LESS THAN JAKE and many others.

Rich Kids on LSD (R.K.L.) was a Californian hardcore punk band formed in 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. They were associated with the "Nardcore" scene that evolved out of nearby Oxnard. Their music expanded over the years from pure West Coast hardcore to an extraordinary mix of hardcore with rock elements. This style, along with touring, made them very popular on the European scene, especially among skaters in the eighties and nineties. The groups name came about as a mere fluke from some light hearted criticism. According to vocalist Jason Sears in a 2002 interview with Thrasher magazine: “It happened that some guy said, 'Ha, those kids will never be anything, they're just a bunch of rich kids on LSD, man.' The first party we played we didn't have a name for the band, so we put that one on the flier and it just stuck.”
Their musical evolution can be heard on their webpage, which features "RKL Radio" with nearly all of their songs streamed including a complete discography. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RKL)

DEEP WOUND
Deep Wound
Label: Lost & Found Records

pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Deep Wound were one of a handful of great punk bands from the outer regions of Massachusetts who have been largely overlooked by HC history in favor of the "Boston Crew" bands who put out records on XClaim! or Modern Method. The four-piece recorded their one and only single with Lou Giordano and Frank Michaels (Proletariat) and released it on the Radiobeat label in 1982. Their one compilation appearence (on the otherwise excellent Bands that Could be God LP of Massachusetts punk) isn't quite as good as the raging insanity of this single. The record is snotty teenage punk rock but played at lightning speed with totally manic singing. The band also recorded some rough demo tapes in J's basement, which eventually found their way onto CD and vinyl on various bootlegs.
Drummer J Mascis and guitarist Lou Barlow went on to further greatness by forming the seminal indie rock band Dinosaur Jr. (and Lou later started Sebadoh), and bassist Scott Helland played in the Outpatients until their breakup in 1995. The Deep Wound material is all amazing and essential. It has been released in many forms, including several vinyl bootlegs and a CD collection on Lost & Found.

This is by far one of the rawest, dirtiest, most insane hardcore records I've ever heard. I got it at first from a squatter in Georgia on tape for 3 bucks, and from then on my life was changed. I had to transfer it onto CD so I wouldn't kill the tape from overplaying it. If this is what hardcore was striving to sound like (as it should've been), then the majority of hardcore failed horribly after Siege. More bands should take influence from Siege, rather, more bands should realize how much of their sound comes from these guys. If you like Siege, you should also check out the band Infest from California. - - WILL SJC (NY, USA) - -

Contrary to popular belief, the Gore Story LP put out by Lost & Found (LF 021) is a bootleg. It features some studio tracks without vocals, some tracks from their original demo, some rehearsal tracks, and some live material. It was originally released on Red Vinyl and Green Vinyl in a total quantity of 1000 copies. It was later reissued on Blue Vinyl and Yellow Vinyl. The original version came with a press release insert full of wrong information. It states that Septic Deaths guitarist and bassist quit and members of Metallica and Attitude Adjustment took their place. It also states that James Hetfield played guitar with Septic Death for the last performance. The "Final Performance" CD was also a bootleg release by Lost & Found (LF 283/CD). It consists of the final show live tracks from the "Gore Story" LP. It is only 9 songs and is not the complete final performance.

Fast manic hardcore, a lot like the stuff on the split (maybe a little more straightforward - there's no crazy backups on "Organized Sports," etc.). Teenage Warning (1979)
Label: Warner Bros.
Format: LP (Vinyl)
Ripped: mp3 (192kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Years after its release, Teenage Warning still crackles with the punk energy that infused it. Gang-shouted choruses and references to A Clockwork Orange confirm that the Upstarts were forerunners of Oi! and harder edged street punk. However, alongside bar-room gems like "I'm an Upstart" and "Leave Me Alone," are socially conscious compositions that give the band their identity. The most notable of these is "Liddle Towers," which recounts the death of a young man at the hands of brutal police. Perhaps that is what makes Teenage Warning such an enduring punk classic: its balance between the fun and serious, all delivered with unapologetic sneer and enthusiasm.- - by Matthew Kantor - - allmusic.com

RICHARD HELL & THE VOIDOIDS
Destiny Street (1982)
Label: Razor & Tie
Format: CD
Ripped: mp3 (128kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 10 out of 10..AMAZING!!
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com
No one ever accused Richard Hell of being the hardest working man in rock & roll, and not only did it take him five years to get around to making a follow-up to his first album, the remarkable Blank Generation, but he didn't even bother to come up with a full LP's worth of new material for 1982's Destiny Street; the opening song, "The Kid With the Replaceable Head," first appeared as a B-side to a single in 1979, and three of the album's ten tunes are covers, which hardly speaks well of his productivity. But if it's hard to imagine why it took five years to come up with Destiny Street, there's little arguing that Hell's second album is nearly as strong as his first. While the covers might seem like padding, the interpretations of the Kinks' "You Gotta Move" and Them's "I Can Only Give You Everything" are wildly passionate and overflowing with ideas and energy, and Hell's dour, jagged take on Dylan's "Going, Going, Gone" nearly surpasses the original. Robert Quine's guitar work on Blank Generation staked his claim as one of the most interesting and intelligent guitarists to emerge from the New York underground scene, and if anything, he was in even stronger form on Destiny Street, while new members Naux (on guitar) and Fred Maher (on drums) give him all the support he needs. And though Blank Generation made it clear Hell was among the brainiest members of punk's first graduating class, the handful of new originals here show he'd actually grown since his debut; on "Downtown at Dawn" and "Ignore That Door," Hell subtly but implicitly rejects the dead end of night-life decadence, "Time" is a meditation on mortality that's unexpectedly compassionate, and the title cut proved Hell had not only begun to recognize his own faults, but had even learned to laugh at them. Destiny Street sounds looser and more spontaneous than Hell's debut, but it's just as smart and every bit as powerful, and it's a more than worthy follow-up.

pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Formed in Forest Hills, NY, in 1974, this quartet of quintessential punk forefathers blitzkrieged out of NYC’s legendary CBGB scene and into world fame with three loud, lean, hard, and fast albums before the Sex Pistols even took their first shot. Besides basically inventing punk rock, Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy outlasted almost every one of their legions of followers, delivering their signature pop and garage-flavored chainsaw sound for over 20 years, through a string of infamous albums and 2,263 concerts together. Spanning 1976-1995, this new collection features 20 classic tracks, including "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker," "Rockaway Beach," "Rock ‘N’ Roll High School," "I Wanna Be Sedated," "Pet Sematary," and "Blitzkrieg Bop."

The thinking man's version of the Promise Ring has called it quits, and what better way to say goodbye than to add yet another single to their already massive discography? Please Drive Faster continues in the Braid tradition of choppy pop that remains at a midtempo speed. And with their melodic formula of complex riffs that graduated from the school of Cap 'n Jazz, Braid can be remembered as indie legends who quit while they were at the peak of their career. - - by Mike DaRonco - - Allmusic.com

PENETRATION
Moving Targets
Format: CD
Ripping: mp3 (160kbps)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

The only summation one can make of the career of English punks Penetration is, what a disappointment. In 1977, Penetration released a classic chunk of punk rock defiance titled "Don't Dictate." With Pauline Murray's impassioned vocals (sounding a bit like X-Ray Spex's Poly Styrene) leading the way, this was a blazing piece of anti-authoritarian rant: loud, snotty, and proud. Sadly, it was to be the one song they remained best noted for (assuming there are people who still remember Penetration). The problem was that they traded in barely competent but energetic bashing and thrashing for a more "mature" new wave/"punk-ish" rock sound. As a result, their debut LP, Moving Targets, although it has its moments, never lived up to the promise of "Don't Dictate." Still, Pauline Murray was a force to be reckoned with. Easily one of the best singers to come out of English punk rock, she made the band interesting even when the songs weren't there, the production was overwrought, and the whole enterprise was terribly uneven. It was to the surprise of no one that by 1980 she was fronting a new band, the Invisible Girls, who based on Murray's strengths became known as Pauline Murray and the Invisible Girls. Still, major success eluded Murray, and she later moved into singing more elegant, mainstream pop/rock, remaining one of England's best unknown singers. - - by John Dougan - -

GUTTERMOUTH
Shave the Planet (2006)
Label: Volcom
Format: CD
Ripping: mp3 (VBR HQ)
Rating: 7.0
pw = hangoverhard.bogspot.com

Guttermouth have always been ridiculously crude, sarcastic, and politically incorrect. They're like the bratty younger brothers of NOFX who could test even the hardened nerves of Fat Mike. But unlike their recently cause-driven kinsmen, Mark Adkins and crew never really stray from the schoolboy idiocies of their past for even vaguely serious stabs at political or societal musings. Shave the Planet, their tenth album, is absolutely no different. Sure, the exasperations of living in America at the turn of the century frustrate them as much as the next band, but they'd rather display their aggravation by showing no regard for anything at all, as in tactless songs about erectile dysfunction, sex with minors, popping Zoloft, and Darwin's theory of evolution (which is covered in the great, Jello Biafra-esque "Primate Camp"). Obesity is tackled in especially compassionate terms ("I'd like to tell you tastefully/Your ass is an enormity"), with brief background chants of "bulimia" thrown in for good measure. But while the crass humor and reckless energy of Guttermouth are appreciated in today's hypersensitive Hot Topic punk scene, Shave the Planet just seems haphazard and unfocused, even for them. With 2004's Eat Your Face, Guttermouth were on a defiant mission to carry on Cali punk as it was when bands weren't so concerned with image and Myspace totals. With this album, however, the only thing that's clear is that Guttermouth still enjoy attempts at crossing the line for the mere act of crossing it -- but even insubordination needs a direction sometimes. So though the sarcastic "God, Steve McQueen 'The Work Song'" is a rollicking, fun ode to the workforce and "The 23 Things That Rhyme with Darby Crash" is pretty amusing if only for its subject matter, Shave the Planet ends before it ever really gets started -- and that's not even considering its run time of a mere 22 minutes. - - by Corey Apar - -

SOCIAL DISTORTION
Demos, Promos & Covers
Label: Bootleg
Format: mp3 (vbr)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

The enduring L.A. punk band Social Distortion has overcome numerous personnel shifts, the demise of the Los Angeles hardcore scene that spawned them, and the heroin addiction of singer/guitarist/bandleader Mike Ness to achieve a measure mainstream acceptance for their rootsy, hard-hitting punk without compromise. Inspired by the fertile L.A. punk scene, Ness formed the group in 1978 with drummer Casey Royer and brothers Frank (bass) and Rikk Agnew (guitar). When the brothers left to join the Adolescents, Ness' schoolmate Dennis Danell joined on bass; the next few years saw a revolving-door membership. When the group finally recorded its debut album, Mommy's Little Monster in 1983, the band consisted of Ness, Danell (now on guitar), bassist Brent Liles, and drummer Derek O'Brien. Their music was often described as a punk version of the Rolling Stones, and "Another State of Mind" was one of the few punk videos to air on MTV in 1984. However, the band took four years to record a follow-up, as Ness descended into heroin addiction and self-consciously rebellious behavior. Liles and O'Brien left, and Ness, after straightening himself out, finally regrouped in 1988 with John Maurer on bass and Chris Reece on drums. This lineup recorded Prison Bound, a mature album broadening Social Distortion's roots rock influences with a country feel. Their self-titled 1990 effort included a cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" and returned the group to MTV via "Ball and Chain." Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell became their most popular album to date, producing a minor radio hit in "Bad Luck" and keeping with their now-established blend of punk, blues, country, and rockabilly.
Social Distortion took an extended hiatus following the release of Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, returning in 1996 with White Light, White Heat, White Trash, which proved to be a moderate hit on MTV and modern-rock radio; former Black Flag and D.O.A. drummer Chuck Biscuits made his debut on the album, following the departure of Reece. Live at the Roxy followed in 1998, and a year later Ness issued a pair of solo albums, Cheating at Solitaire and the covers collection Under the Influences. Danell died February 29, 2000 of an apparent brain aneurysm; the guitarist was just 38-years-old. In the fall of 2000, Jonny Wickersham signed on as the group's new guitarist, and Charlie Quintana took over on drums from the often busy Biscuits. After extensive touring, the band went back into the studio in 2004 to record Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll.

JERRY'S KIDS
Kill Kill Kill & Is this My Word ? (1989)
Label: Taang Records
Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

The second half of this CD, "Is This My World," is amazing old-school Boston hardcore (songs 14-25). It's very fast and manic, and influenced most of the early Boston hardcore scene, including contemporaries Gang Green and SSD. It's hella fast, slightly sloppy, and all over the place, in the best way that only classic hardcore is. The drumming is particularly amazing: an absolute blur. The first half, "Kill, Kill, Kill," (songs 1-13) is a later release, and sounds pretty different than "Is This My World." The first 13 songs that make up the "Kill, Kill, Kill" half of this CD definitely pale in comparison to the much more hardcore half, "Is This My World,"--but it's a small price to pay for having the "Is This My World" LP on the CD.

SQUIRTGUN
Shenanigans (Ep)
Format: mp3 (128kbps)

pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Squirtgun was formed by producer Mass Giorgini in 1994, and was made up of former members of his recently disbanded Rattail Grenadier. Squirtgun signed almost immediately to Lookout Records, with which Mass had already developed a steady relationship as a record producer. Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, who co-produced The Riverdales with Mass, recommended Squirtgun to Jeff Saltzman, who was advising on the soundtrack for Mallrats, the then-upcoming film by Kevin Smith. The Squirtgun song "Social" was chosen as the opening song to the film, which has since become a cult classic.
Squirtgun's first full-length album, the eponymous Squirtgun, was released in 1995 on Lookout Records, and included the song "Social," in addition to a song called "Make it Up," which featured a guest vocal appearance by Mike Dirnt of Green
Day.

Nothing else makes everything ok for 2 and a half minutes than a lifetime song. this is their most cohesive and impressive work from start to finish. is it 21 minutes long? it feels like an hour (in a good way) - or at least it used to - before i knew it by heart from start to finish. the bliss, ache, and passion in these songs - from the sheer explosive energy, the heaving and winding nearly orchestral feel of the driving hardcore crash and crunch fused with unparalleled melodicism, and ari's introspective lyrics - this album lingers more like an incredibly memorable book than a rock album. this is cathartic. this is how life feels

I bought this album because its a Victory CD and so I assumed it would be hardcore - which it really is not. The music is more punk pop, with melodies and actual singing. The songs are very good, with lots of catchy hooks and choruses. These guys could sell several million albums if they got on MTV - the tunes are really catchy. What makes them unique is that their music focuses on East Asian philosophy, mostly Buddhism and Hinduism. There is alot of cheese factor here, but it is good. If you want catchy, buy this album. - - Clayton Paulding (DMZ, South Korea) - -
