THE SMOKING POPES
1991-1998 (1999)
Label: Double Zero Records
Format: mp3 (VBR)
HHA Rating: 9,5
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

The Caterer brothers were raised on rock 'n' roll and crooners like Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. In 1980 Matt got a guitar, Josh a bass guitar and Eli a drum set and they began to play together. Soon after, their eyes were opened to the world of the Ramones and punk rock. Other early musical influences included Mel Tormé, Tom Waits, The Replacements, The Smiths, early AC/DC, The Cars, and Dinosaur Jr.
In 1990 Matt and Josh, calling themselves Speedstick, got a gig at a party and played approximately 10 original punk-style compositions. About this time, Matt switched to bass and Dave Martens joined as drummer. Josh became an Elvis Costello fan and his style, accordingly, became more pop influenced. Speedstick recorded 10 songs in their first studio session, including "Brand New Hairstyle," which would become a staple of the Smoking Popes repertoire.
They changed the band's name, taking "Smoking" from Matt and Josh's penchant for excessive cigarette smoking and "Popes" from the movie "The Pope of Greenwich Village." (The band's original name was simply the "Popes", but it was decided to add the adjective to distinguish the band from the Chicago gang The Popes.) Martens, disenchanted with the band's musical direction, stopped attending rehearsals and the Caterers recruited Mike Felumlee of Article One to replace him.

HHA Rating: 9.0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Definitly an awesome CD. Don't be fooled by the cover! THey're not as HardCore as they may look, but this album shreds like a blender on liquefy!! Johnny's scratchy vocals are pleasing to the ears, Shawn smash has a grinding solo in about every song, and their chick drummer is nothing less than impressive. The only weak point is Joe Bastard's bass, he really sucks! "Johnny" sounds like a Ramones song (Kick @$$), "Voice of the streets" is a good song to listen to if you've just been dumped by a girl, "Boot Party" has loud yelling Oi!, And you heard the kick @$$ song "Riot City" on Punk -o- Rama 1, and on their debut album, pledge of defience, they do a new version of it that is pretty good. All my friends that have listened to it agree that it is one of the best records they've ever heard. Drop everything, go down to your local recordshop and demand this CD it is a must have!!! Oi!

UNWRITTEN LAW
Here's to the Mourning (2005)
Label: Lava
Covers: Yes
Format: mp3 (320kbps)
HHA Rating: 6.0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

After the stripped-down acoustic pop of 2003’s Music in High Places, Unwritten Law’s back to rock, adding stadium-metal theatrics and bigger-than-big production to their sunny pop-punk on Here’s to the Mourning. Unfortunately, this is not really a good thing. Here is modern rock that sounds like it was written by an-out-of touch boardroom trying to reach target demographics--not, you know, a band. "Because Of You," the only song with a title more than one or two words long, is sonically a sweet take on the classic SoCal skatepunk sound. But it’s so daft lyrically ("My satisfaction lies in your hands girl"?) and musically (you’ve heard commercials for cleaning products that rock harder and are more complex), it sounds like a boy band trying to be "hard." A few tunes add acoustic guitars and electronic elements to the rawk; these attempts just make this late ‘90s nostalgia sound even more tired and old. Newcomers are encouraged to start with either Places or their debut, Blue Room. --Mike McGonigal

One of the current Punk scene`s most under-rated bands, the Guitar Gangsters work and play hard and really should be at the top of the charts with their thoughtful, meaningful Pop Punk. This is a 2 on 1 coupling of the bands first two albums, ''Prohibition'' having originally been issued by Link Records in 1989 (and co-produced by me!) and ''Money With Menaces'' having come out on Communique two years later. Debut from 1998 for Swedish act is arguably their best full-length record, it features the original cover art & all 13 of the tracks from when it was originally released in 1996, including '(Gotta Get Some Action) Now!', 'Fake Baby' & 'Spock In My Rocket'. Flat-out, high-energy, no-holds-barred, no-quarter-given, balls-to-the-wall, dirty and dangerous rock and roll, the way it's SUPPOSED to be! Fans of MC5, Motorhead and early Kiss won't want to miss this one! The boys blast off with the mission statement "(Gotta Get Some Action) Now!" and its full-throtte from start to finish, nearly an hour of overdrive and attitude that will leave you battered but begging for more! THE HEALLCOPTERS
Grande Rock (1999)
Label: Sub Pop Recs.
Covers: Punk United
Format: mp3 (128kbps)
HHA Rating: 8.0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

If ever there were a manifesto against electronica's bleeps, blurps, and brainwashed soundscapes and that decried alt-rock's fey pretensions, Grande Rock could be it. The Hellacopters play kick-ass, butt-stomping rock à la Ted Nugent at his most gonzo, MC5 at their most coherent, and Mudhoney at their least bratty. The best thing about the Hellacopters is that they pull off their rock caper without a trace of irony; this is the pure dose. These guys were born to Rawk! and they know it. Hellacopter fans are largely co-opted by this Swedish outfits outstandingly thunderous and frenetic live escapades: their studio albums somehow never quite recreate the sweat and smell of the 'Copters onstage. But Grande Rock, their stateside debut on legendary-but-tarnished grunge-rock label SubPop, comes damned close. Just listen to the slabs of meaty hooks, primal vocal screams, raging tornado drum rolls, and ear-searing guitar solos. Unlike their loud progenitors, the Hellacopters know how to keep it short and sweet: the opening track "Action De Grace" ends as soon as it hits it's crescendo--after only two minutes. Most tracks barely clock over three minutes. Yet somehow the boys manage to cram in a hellish amount of rock in that short time. The best song here is "The Devil Stole the Beat from the Lord"; Grande Rock makes the case that the Hellacopters are the horned one's accomplices. No just court of rock could acquit them. --Tod Nelson

MADNESS

Madness are the masters of ska. Infusing a healthy dose into their songs they provide great music to skank to. Their only hit in the US, the fun "Our House", isn't the best representation of their sound. Songs like "My Girl", "The Prince", "One Step Beyond" and especially "Baggy Trousers" show off their ska rhythms. The album is full of hyper energy and in a word, fun.

TRUSTY
Goodbye Dr. Fate (1995)
Label: Dischord
Covers: Yes
Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 8,5
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

We were formed in 1989 in Little Rock, Arkansas. During the time we lived in Little Rock we released a demo tape, one 7" ("A Name to Depend On") and one LP (self titled). Our original bass player, Paul, left the band in 1990. We relocated to DC in 1992 just after our last major tour. With us came Brad Long, formerly of Sobering Consequences from Memphis, Tennessee. We released another 7" ("Cockatoo") and started from scratch in a new musical environment. Around early 1993 our original drummer, Bircho, moved back to Little Rock and we found Jim Schaffer who had been in Senator Flux during their last album ("Storyknife") and final tour. This would make the current line up of Trusty as follows:
* Bobby Matthews - guitar and vocals
* James Brady - guitar and vocals
* Brad Long - bass
* Jim Schaffer - drums
Since that time we've been regularly touring and playing. We toured the US (coast to coast) in March and April 1995 and in October, November and December.
In the fall of 1996, we toured Europe with the release of The Fourth Wise Man. In Spring 1997, we hope to tour the US again.

There was something to be said about the transformation of Smart Went Crazy. There first record was nice, friendly, but, to be honest, rather borimg. So when I broke down and picked up Con Art, I wasn't really expecting much different....but i was wrong. DEAD wrong. This record contains a combination of elements not really seen...beautiful lyrics, intense and unique instrumental power and backing, and the firm conviction of telling all of their feelings. Sadly, SMC are no more, which is a damn shame, because they were one heck of a live band. The whole darn CD is breathtaking; songs such as "a Good Day", "A brief conversation ending in divorce," and "Immutable Beauty:" will knock your socks off, as will every other track on here. SWC are no more, Con Art is their tombstone, listen....and weep

THE POSERS
Anti-Christian Animosity
Label: Cargo Music
Covers: Yes
Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 7,5

The Posers beginnings were no different than most punk bands. Boredom and disgust with the mainstream and the music it spat out. They played thier first show february 95 and although they've had numerous line-up changes. Both Rayny Forster (vocals) and Sean Boone (drums) have managed to keep the Posers together.
The band mixes a variety of styles to deliver their best record to date. An excellent blend of punk brewed to perfection and served up just right. Punk rock the way it was meant to be played, old school for the new school. But they don't take our word for it. Here's what the critics have to say about past releases.

Label: Headhunter Recs.

Tension is a three piece Canadian punk band who play early eighties style U.K. punk. The band is made up of ex-members of The Exploited, Filth and The Lager Lads. Pissed off with recent wave of so called "new school" punk, Tension's style stays well clear of any such melodic, mid-tempe, easy listening crap. In early '96, Tension released their debut full-lenght CD, "We Hate...Destroy". Thier second record, "War Cry" is a strong follow-up, sure to please these with a thirst for more hard edged material dealing with everything from organized religion to punk rocks inherent preocupation with self destruction.

I discovered Pistol Grip back when my friend was on the street team for BYO. They had just released their first album, the Shots From the Kalico Rose and I bought it almost immediatly. It was one of the best albums I'd heard in a while, and this new album is no dissapointment. It has a seemingly more distinct sound, i.e., less catchy riffs and more soul, with a noticable Adicts influence. I cannot wait to see them live again (for the third time). When I saw them at Warped Tour here in Dallas last year, me and my friend were the only people actively at their small stage. I highly recommend you get out there, buy this album, and catch one of their shows. They don't have the fan base they most definatly deserve.

ONE MAN ARMY
Last Word Spoken (2000)
Label: Adeline Records
Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 8,5

there are many good punk albums that came out in the past 10 years (rancid's underrated life won't wait, which to me is the little brother of the clash's great london calling album is one of them)but one man army's last word spoken has to rank up there with the best of the past 10 years by far. one man army still aren't that well known in the punk community (stints on the warped tour and opening for bigger bands like swingin' utters and bouncing souls will help that!)but are quite possibly the best of the smaller unknown bands. this album unlike many punk albums is very listenable from the opening track the old songs right down to the final acoustic track the holidays...which is a hard thing to do for alot of punk albums because there is alot of unneeded filler! signed to the label of billie joe armstrong's wifes label (yep billie joe of green day)adeline they haven't gotten the exposure that they deserve but it's coming and for some reason i like being one of the few that knows about this unknown punk rock treasure! if your into this album definetly check out their 1st album dead end stories which isn't as good as last word spoken but it's still worthy of buying! i can't begin to say how many times this album has been played since it's release and because of how short it is it's easy to play over and over and end's to damn quick (kinda like the misfits classic and one of the best punk albums ever, walk amoung us-short but a classic!)get this and get dead end stories...i promise you definetly will not be sorry you did!

VA - RONDELET RECORDS
Punk Singles Collection (1995)
Label: Anagram Punk UK
Covers: Yes
Format: mp3 (128kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

ANTI-PASTI: Hailing from Derby, ANti-Pasti were by far Rondelet's most successful and biggest selling Punk band. Led by vocalist Martin Roper and guitarist Dugi, the pair were joined on the "Four Sore Points" EP by drummer Stand and bassist Stu though by the time of "Let Them Free" they'd been replaced by Kev and Will respectively. Stars of the 1981 "Apocalypse Punk" tour (along with The Exploited, Discharge, Chron-Gen and the Anti-Nowhere League) and constantly topping independent Charts, Anti-PAsti also managed to spend 7 weeks in the UK album chart with their debut LP "The Last Call" which eventually peaked at Nº 31. A fifth member, guitarist Olly Hoon, was added by the time of late 82's "East To The West" 45 though they sadly split later that same year following a less than ecstatic response to their second LP "Caution In The Wind".
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE FITS: Having issued on EP for Beat The System Records "You Said We'd Never Make It" the Blackpool based Fits signed Rondelet in early '82 and debuted with the "Think For Yourself" EP. Despite regular line up changes, vocalist Mick Crudge and guitarist Steve Whiters remained constant members and oversaw the group's final Rondelet releases, the "Last Lunch" EP and The "You're Nothing You're Nowhere" LP after which they moved to Corpus Christi for the superb "Tears Of a Nation" 45. They then teamed up with Peter & The Test Tube Babies for a variety of dates and a split 12" "Pressed For Cash" as well as releasing the "Action" and "Fact or Fiction" singles, both on Trapper Records, before disappearing from view in 1985.

SPECIAL DUTIES: Led by the colourful and controversial Steve Arrogant (vocals) and Bart POvah (guitar), the Colchester based Special Duties, who also featured bassist Steve Duty and drummer Mark Gregory, released their debut single 'Violent Society' (produced by The Lurker's Howard Wall) on the Charnel House label in late '81. Rondelet picked up on the band and issued a new version of 'Violent Society' in early '82 by which time Stuart Bray had taken over at the drum stool. The superb 'Police State' EP, produced by Mike Stone of GBH and Discharge fame, followed later in the same year though it was the 'Bullshit Crass' 45 that really caused a major talking point amongst the Punk fraternity. The LP '77 in 82' was their last release for Rondelet following which they moved to Expulsion for 1983's 'Punk Rocker' 45, the band's last release.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEAD MAN'S SHADOW: John Igoe (guitar), Matt Dagnut (vocals/bass) and Ian Fisher (drums) were Dead Man's Shadow and they orginally formed in late 1980. Their first release was the 'Neighbours' EP on Hog Records which was followed by the 'Heathrow Touchdown' 45,a split EP with fellow Middlesex outfit Action Pact. Whilst with Rondelet they issued two singles, 'Bomb Scare' and 'Flower in The Gun', before switching to Expulson Records for 1983's '4Ps' LP and 'In My Dreams' single. One of the few early 80's punk bands to receive any sort of positive critical acclaim D.M.S. finally bowed out in late '84 with the 'Another Year' and the 'Mohammed A Mountain' LP, both released by Criminal Damage Records.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE MEMBRANES: Led by the enigmatic John Robb on bass/vocals, The Membranes first formed in Blackpool in 1977 though it wasn't until 1980 and the 'Flexible Membranes' flexi disc for Vinyl Drip that they made their record debut. A second single for the label 'Muscles' also ended up as their first for Rondelet, albeit with extra tracks. Their only release for the label was the 'Pinstripe Hype' EP, issued late in '82 after which they moved to Criminal Damage.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RIOT SQUAD: As Rondelet was based in Mansfield it made sense that they signed that town's biggest (only?) Punk band, Riot Squad. Both the 'Fuck The Tories' and 'Religion Doesn't Mean a Thing' 7-inches charted high in the Indie Top 20 and established the band as one of the third wave of Punk's most popular acts. When Rondelet folded in late 1982 Riot Squad's vocalist Dunk set up Rot Records as an outlet for new Punk talent and the band isseud three singles for the label - 'Don't Be Denied', 'I'm OK Fuck You' and 'There Ain't No Solution' - as well as the 'No Potential Threat' LP before splitting in early '84.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THREATS: Vocalist Jamo, bassist Tin, drummer Meecho and guitarist Gogs were the Threats though other than the two singles they issued for Rondelet. 'Go to Hell' and 'Politicians & Ministers', little is known of this powerful four piece. Anyone who knows any more about The Threats is welcome to drop me a line.

J CHURCH
The Procession of Simulacra/Map Precedes Territory (1995)
Label: Jade Tree Records
Covers: Yes
Format: mp3 (192kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Prolific San Francisco punk-pop trio J Church was formed in 1991 by singer/guitarist Lance Hahn and bassist Gardner Fusuhara, longtime friends who previously teamed in Cringer. Named in honor of a local bus route, the group went through a series of drummers before and after the 1993 release of their full-length debut, Quetzalcoatl; the album was quickly followed by Camels, Spilled Corona and the Sound of Mariachi Bands, a collection of early singles. Upon completing 1994's Prophylaxis, J Church added drummer Reed Burgoyne who made his recorded debut on the single "Ivy League College"; the continued flurry of 7"s, split singles, and compilation appearances soon yielded a second compilation, Nostalgic for Nothing. After issuing 1995's Arbor Vitae on Hahn's own Honey Bear label, J Church caused much consternation among fans by signing to Honest Don's Hardly Used Recordings label for 1996's The Drama of Alienation; Burgoyne left the lineup a year later and was replaced by A Minor Forest drummer Andee Connors. Yet another singles collection, 1998's Altamont 99 preceded the exits of Fusuhara and Connors, with bassist Jeff Bursley and ex-Jawbreaker drummer Adam Pfahler joining Hahn for 2000's One Mississippi.- - by Jason Ankeny - - Allmusic.com

Peach Tree is a fine punk pop cd with tons of vocal and musical hooks. The cd will remind many of the days when the Descendents rulled punk rock, and is worth noting that Bill Stevenson and Stephan Egerton produced and mixed it in the Blastin Room. This album will definatley bring joy to those that are looking for great pop and an alternative to stale alternative music.

Their incredible second LP. So Cal's finest in melodic punk. Great songs, perfect harmony, amazing recording. To all you younger hardcore/punk lovers, definately an album you NEED to hear. If you're into any of the Fugazi generation of punk, then you probly know this band. If not, check them out. I went to see this band everytime they were w/in 50 miles of my hometown when I was in High School and College. Their live shows kick @$&, and they're either really nice guys or good actors. AMAZING musicians... GREAT vocals and INCREDIBLE lyrics. Buy their music. Down By Law is similarly AWESOME, so get some DAVE SMALLEY tunes while you're at it. Peace and Punk

HHA Rating: 9.0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Straight Faced once again plows ahead of the rest and knocks us all down with another killer album. After jumping to Epitaph from Fearless, the huge production on this new baby roasts. Conditioned burns with energy, drips of anger and hits the listener like a ton of bricks. With songs about family (Revolve), people that just can't keep their mouth shut (Rumor Mill), and greed (greed motivates), Straight Faced know what's important to them and to the scene. The drumming on this is amazing, the sound is huge, and with 15 tracks, the heat never dies. If you like old-school '88 style hardcore, with the punch of 90's California melodicore, there is nothing better than an album from Straight Faced. I can only hope this gets the attention it deserves.

Label: Alternative Tentacles

Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 10
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

13 Flavours of Doom is a dandy. "Hey Sister" is a highlight for its roots punk feel and its dead on lyrics.The bands belief that punk rockers have brains strikes a positive note. The darker songs such as "Time of Illusion" and "Phantom Zone" show how much ground D.O.A. really does cover. Not many bands have enough humour to start a CD with a tune "Already Dead" but this one does. The pace is fast from the start, the guitars grab you, the bass is uncomprimising, and the drums are fantastic. The dated "Beatin' Rock 'n' Roll to Death" is even more hilarious in retrospect. Never a band to take other bands too seriously this CD presents a band that has to be reckoned with.

Just do a little looking around at your favorite independent shop or some record shows, you can find it. And it's well worth the search if you enjoy these New York noise stalwarts. Songs like "Burn" and "Vandal-X" crackle and growl with menace -- one of the thicker and more nuanced guitar sounds in punk/hardcore, a rolling boil of drums, and nice growly bass in each and every song. Some of this material has been re-issued on "Lambhouse," but there's still a nice trove of songs here to dull your hearing and vent your restless demons with.
So good luck on your search. Don't support the used CD equivalent of ticket scalpers.

BADTOWN BOYS
Date with Death (1991)
Label: Gift Of Life
Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 9.5
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Formed in 1985 in the San Fernando Valley, Badtown Boys have never strayed from their punk rock roots. From their first single on Dionysus Records to their self-titled debut album on Gift Of Life Records, which also brought "Date With Death" and Pennyless In Paradise" and their 1994 release "ep.i.dem.ic", the band has proven it's staying power and have lived up to their "cult Punk legend" status. The guys are also working on a live CD made up from numerous shows dating back to 1991-1995.
With five European tours thoughout Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, England, Wales, Scotland and Yugoslavia, Badtown Boys have played with the likes of D.O.A., Dog Eat Dog, Satanic SurferBTB01.jpg (20609 bytes)s, Spermbirds and Yellow Car, just to name a few. And with a fist full of US tours with All and the Dickies the band has built up a loyal and devoted following. Just witness one of their live shows and you'll know why.
Badtown Boys have had the opportunity to have their albums produced by some of punk rock's best engineers
such as Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion, NOFX, Dag Nasty, Rancid), Pat Coughlin (R.K.L., No Use For A Name), and for their new release, the ever wicked Micheal Rozon (Beck, Dead Lazlo's Place, Shattered Faith). Badtown Boys have also appeared on numerous compilation albums, including The Ramones tribute "Gabba Gabba Hey" released on Triple X Records.
The Badtown Boys have just been signed to New Red Archives and their new CD "Another Fine Day" was released on May 1st 1999. "Another Fine Day" is loaded with hard driving, full throttle Punk Rock mixed in with the bands classic chainsaw pop sound that Badtown Boys fans worldwide have come to love. Badtown Boys will be back on tour soon, we hope that everyone can make it to the show....once again.

THE BOLLWEEVILS
Stick Your Neck Out (1994)
Label: Dr. STrange Records
Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 8.0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Coming from the same school of punk rock as other classic Chicago bands such as Apocalypse Hoboken, Naked Raygun, the Effigies and Screeching Weasel, the Bollweevils destroyed everything in their path. their energy live would cause a mad frenzy with every sold out show they'd play. on record, you couldn't help but scream along. this is probably their best album, so grab it while you can.
They broke up in 1997 after several years of being the crowned kings of Chicago. they were always the guys who you could talk to and they'd remember your name and when they said thanks for coming to the show, they meant it. Currently, Darrel (vocals) is a doctor. he played in Lando's 45 briefly and is currently working on a project with Ken. Ken (guitar) is a chemestry teacher. he also played in the Feds and Calahan. like stated previously, he's working with Darrel on a new project. Bob (bass) plays guitar in the amazingly awesome band Sleepwalker Defense. Brian is currently working with animals in Florida.
If you're a fan of blisteringly fast punk, buy this record. if you're into new school pop punk, buy this record anyway, because it'll probably change your outlook on music, because the Bollweevils are actually good.

THE BOLLWEEVILS
Heavyweight (1995)
Label: Dr. Strange Records
Covers: Yes
Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 9.0
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

Heavyweight is tangible leap forward for hardcore punkers the Bollweevils, displaying a more complex and nuance-ridden approach than the group's debut, Stick Your Neck Out. (The intervening album, History of the Bollweevils, Pt. 1, was a compilation of previously released tracks.) The Bollweevils still burn through each track in a high-speed thrashed-out frenzy, but this time there are some bolts of melody ripping through the tracks, and the buzzing guitars seem a whole lot more nimble and varied than on the group's debut. This is particularly evident on highlights such as "20 Something" and "Fence Sitters." The album also features a blistering throwdown on Bad Brains' "Pay to Cum." This is a highly appealing (though breathlessly energetic) album, particularly when measured against the soundalike tracks on the group's debut.- - by Erik Hage - -

Label: Jade Tree Records

Format: mp3 (160kbps - HQ)
HHA Rating: 8,5
pw = hangoverhard.blogspot.com

This album is, in my opinion, a (if not THE) masterpiece of the genre. if you're into metalcore you should appreciate this. out-of-this-world intense vocals on top of flawless, smoothly flowing, and transitionally perfect instrumental composition. this may be the only band in the genre that wonderfully executes lengthy (minutes long) instrumental sections in songs. absolutely worth a thorough, active listen. this is energy in audio form.
Also.. dude form pago pago, i'm afraid you may have gotten this band confused with another. this is damnation a.d. not just damnation. the guitarists are/were ken olden (wrote most music and lyrics on this album) and hillel halloway. ken olden was also in the successful d.c. hardcore band BATTERY.

Its a damn shame that the Beowulf albums arent in print anymore.
They are such a killer band. Dale Henderson's vocals are great. a lot of the bands back from that era of music have these songs that arent very melodic; but, Beowulf are totaly a cut above the rest. The songs have great meanings and good structures. If youve ever heard the other material that they have written,then you know they rock. The style is a tad bit more modern than thier welcome to venice roots; but, nevertheless, if you can find this or any other beowulf albums, by all means, get them. For those of you that dont know what they sound like ill explain: they have a style that is sort of like old hardcore, but with a little bit of metal in with it, throw in a little bit of punk to go with that, a whole lot of melody, good musicianship, youve got the band. Most people that go for the punk or hardcore music discriminate by style; but, whatever your taste, the only reqirement to enjoying this album is that you like any kind of rock at all. From start to finish, this album rules. - - by damian r biddle (elberton, ga United States) - -
